How to Turn Patients over on Hospital Beds

Hospital beds are used for the patients who need to stay for a long time on the bed. Some patients are heavily sick and can't move by themsalves on the bed. Changing a patient's position on hospital bed every 2 hours helps keep blood flowing. This helps the skin stay healthy and prevents bedsores.

It is not hard to turn a patient over while he is on the hospital bed, the first thing you need to do is to tell the patient what you are going to do so the patient knows what to expect. Encourage the patient to help you if possible.

Raise the hospital bed to a proper height that you can touch the patient without bending over too much. Then pull down the side rails, remember to raise the side rails after you turn over the patient. Place one hand on the patient's shoulder and the other one on his hip. Then gently pull the patient's shoulder toward you, meanwhile pull the hip to you as well.

After turning over the patient, make sure the patient's ankles, knees and elbows are not resting on the top of each other.
