Adjustable beds can be ordered with massage units, warming elements to heat mattresses, remote controls and built-in music. Models vary from manual, semi-electric to fully electric.

Hospital beds are meant for single occupancy. Adjustable beds come in not only twin bed size, but full, queen and king widths. Long and extra long beds are also available. They use traditional household linen sizes.

Adjustable beds can be ordered with a separate mattress and independent controls for each side of the bed, permitting each person to customize positions. Height is also adjustable. Each hospital bed is  equipped with one control.

Hospital beds can lower and raise the foot and head portions of the frame. Adjustable beds independently elevate these areas. Either head or foot areas can be raised, or head and foot can be raised together to create a recliner-like contour at full incline or at slight elevations, offer a comfortable sleeping position.

Hospital beds are meant to be utilitarian, portable and easy to clean. Adjustable beds are designed to fit into a home setting. Foam, latex and coil mattress options are available. Frames are decorative rather than utilitarian. Some models can incorporate headboards.
